18k Mini Cartouche Charm

This 18k Yellow Gold vintage Egyptian pendant with the hieroglyphs is an Ancient Egyptian symbol of protection in the Afterlife. The word Cartouche means bullet in French, and was named after Napoleon’s army occupied Egypt and the French soldiers thought the shape looks like a bullet from the gun. The original name of the Cartouche symbol was “shen” which means oval in the Ancient Egyptian language. The oval symbolised a rope that was tied down the bottom and had a name of its owner, usually a pharaoh or a high priest, in the middle of it. These symbols were drawn everywhere on the pharaoh’s tomb as well as the building they were buried in to protect his/her soul in the afterlife.
