18k Gold Khufu Cartouche

A$250.00

This 18k Yellow Gold vintage Egyptian pendant with the hieroglyphs is an Ancient Egyptian symbol of protection in the Afterlife. The word Cartouche means bullet in French, and was named after Napoleon’s army occupied Egypt and the French soldiers thought the shape looks like a bullet from the gun. The original name of the Cartouche symbol was “shen” which means oval in the Ancient Egyptian language. The oval symbolised a rope that was tied down the bottom and had a name of its owner, usually a pharaoh or a high priest, in the middle of it. These symbols were drawn everywhere on the pharaoh’s tomb as well as the building they were buried in to protect his/her soul in the afterlife.

Khufu pharaoh was the 2nd pharaoh of Fourth Dynasty, who had the biggest pyramid in Giza built so the pyramid is also named after him. There’s actually very little evidence in the ancient Egyptian history about him, unlike all the other pharaohs from the time. He was a very fertile man as he had 9 sons and 15 daughters, and he also believed himself to be the divine creator. The Khufu pyramid is considered one of the oldest and most important wonders of the world.

Measurements: 5 x 17 mm (including bail)

Weight: 0.7 grams

The Cartouche pendant is perfect to be stacked together with another smaller amulet to emphasise its potency, such as an Evil Eye or anything else you might resonate with.

Feel free to choose whatever chain you feel would be best for it from our selection. If you don’t find the pattern in the particular length you’re looking for, drop us a message and we’re happy to source you one to be shipped together with your pendant.
